PURE GRAFFITI.Where are you from and how did your background lead you to start writing?
JESUS SAVES. born in west islip long island and at the age of 3 moved into bushwick and ever since i grew up in bushwick Brooklyn where i started tagging jesussaves in 95…i grew up with allot of graffiti writers in my block which was knickerbocker and hancock street back in the mid 80,..i was surrounded with a crew known by msd and later on uf crew..i met msd crew like show (rip) who was the msd prez wich put me down with the crew rip rec rip checo rip smug term bash kaste rlc imsd new gumby gi ser dq temer sept er and many around my way was msd so i basically grew up on graffiti.
PURE GRAFFITI.When did you start writing and what was the first city you hit up?
JESUS SAVES.i started in 1995…the first city i started to hit up was my neighbourhood..bushwick Brooklyn..i started writing all bushwick and bushwick only before i spread out anywhere else..after a couple of months that went by of tagging up alot i started moving up and going to other boroughs like queens Manhattan Bronx and even long island…but Brooklyn is where i think i have caught the most wreck at.
PURE GRAFFITI.Do you usually paint alone or with someone else? Do you paint mostly at night or day? Any preparation’s you make before going out?
JESUS SAVES.is easier for me to paint alone cause sometimes walking with 2 or 3 dudes in the middle of the night can look obvious to police yet alone i could be a normal dude walking or dress bummy so they can think I’m homeless as i stash my paint in a bag full of empty bottle lol..as for daytime tagging well i usually go marker tagging at day time but as for spray painting at day time i don’t..to much people and i cant afford to take a risk of getting caught yet depending where i paint at cause there is some areas and neighbourhoods that can be painted at as long as is a dead spot full of factories where no cars or people hardly comes through but if is straight up recking walls and painting everywhere like crazy definitely at night like i would say from 12 till like 6 or 7 in the morning..as for preparation’s before i go out yes..every week i do a different borough..in a month i be all city..4 weeks i take 4 boroughs ..Sunday night Brooklyn..next Sunday night queens..the following Sunday after the next Manhattan and the forth Sunday Bronx and as a new months kicks in i do the same repeat.
PURE GRAFFITI.How has your writing developed throughout the years? Do you prefer to stick to one style?
JESUS SAVES.of course..my first jesussaves hand writting was like very sloppy..i was new at it and my way of writting it was very toyish with drips coming down like wow i feel like giving up..but i kept on and as years went by my hand movement and hand style got much better faster neater and smoother..my hand movement got so used to it that i feel like it tags automatically for me even with my eyes closed..and yes i stick with one hand style because it becomes like my own little
logo. if i change my style and start writting differently then my logo style cant be recognized world wide..changing my style is just gonna slow me down from reaching my goals.
PURE GRAFFITI.What’s the best thing about being a graffiti writer? What’s the worst thing about being an artist?
JESUS SAVES.the best thing about being a graffiti writer it allows you to be welcomed into a graffiti world where zillions and zillions and zillions of youths and even old ones paint for the world to see..graffiti is art and is a way of expression..is a power that comes out of a individual for all eyes to see..as for the worst thing about becoming a graffiti artist is that if you have a couple of arrest for graffiti you will face time..i cant speak for all world wide and for all the 50 states in the u.s but as for new york they making a big big big deal out of it and i guess that’s the worst thing about it and also depending how far the graff beef goes..sadly it could be worst than just a beat down you know?
PURE GRAFFITI.Is there a purpose to your artwork? where do you want to go with this and what is your mission?
JESUS SAVES.well the thing is that I’m not just a hard core street graffiti writer but I’m also a evangelist graffiti wise for GOD this is my way of repping my Jesus Christ and my way of spreading the good word..every single tag i catch preaches it for me 24/7 rather I’m tagging it up rather I’m piecing rather I’m sticker pasting it up rather is on line rather if my jesussaves shirts is being sold and used world wide it doesn’t matter..my purpose is being done automatically..my mission and goal is to be world wide and yeah man my goal and mission is to travel everywhere in the world take videos and pictures that will last with me for the rest of my life even if it takes that 1 time to visit that country i might not return back to.
PURE GRAFFITI.What other types of mediums do you use to get your message out?
JESUS SAVES.not just graffiti wise but i also have my t-shirts that’s also selling allot thanks to sst3 star lights studio also jesussaves canvases and of course by uploading my pics on line is a good way to be known as a graffiti writer and a graffiti artist and at the same time sending my messages out for Gods honor and glory not mine.
PURE GRAFFITI.How do you feel when people interpret your artwork differently?
JESUS SAVES.sometimes i take it offensively for example i was with cope who invited me during the time they did the painting for the time magazine cover and cope asked the photographer if i can take a space on the billboard for the front cover magazine wich was done at 5pointz and they asked what do he writes..jesussaves..ahh no sorry we don’t deal with religion or anything that has to do with God or Jesus and i was like wow cope skuf ja jee and many other came off on the time magazine which is a good thing to know cause of their recognition to the streets but i was rejected for my message..i chose to be different..not only graffiti wise but even human wise to a point where i must respect peoples decisions and beliefs and let God be the judge and let God be the one to take control.
PURE GRAFFITI.What advice do you have for aspiring artists? Is there an artist you relate to?
JESUS SAVES.my advice to them is to go all out for art..let it become a part of your life..don’t let nothing stop you from changing your life style and your way of showing the world the power that is within you for al eyes to see rather on a wall blackbook canvases or piece of paper or poster lol what ever is hard for me to tell what artist i can relate to but for some reason i think i fit in the New York category of ufo miss17 yes2 gen2 kuma slept avone katsu nea ski 2esae 323 and as for neckface uuum yeah i can fit with him to but we are opposite and 2 different peoples graffiti wise and spiritually
i hold no grunge or anything against him
and i guess that’s about it.
PURE GRAFFITI.How do you feel after you finished or while you are painting? Have you ever been arrested? Any getaway stories or close calls?
JESUS SAVES.rather I’m painting or rather I’m finished i did my job as a graffiti writer and artist to complete my mission..i am a man with a can in my hand..i believe in art and putting my pieces and even tag name out there..i feel fine and i feel so blessed..i was born to be an artist..graffiti has been my calling and i received it..as for being arrested yes i have..i never been caught red handed but for the fact i walk late at night with baggy jeans and a hoody on i get stopped by under covers and once they find paint they take me in and hold me in the bull pins jail cell in their presence…since my charge is graffiti they call vandal squad..once they come and see me what do they say? hahahaha no way jesussaves? come on man are you still writting bro?oh man you need to get a life bro..now look..you,re gonna face time now..and what do they do?they drive around and take pictures of all my tags and use it against me in court..is not easy going through this process..is not a game and right now i cant afford to go through this which is why i chose to travel and paint world wide and legally cause i wanna be a graffiti writer for the rest of my life instead out getting in trouble for this..as for get aways hahaha i was being chased one night and i ended up in a platform breathing hard…the cops ran upstairs looking for the graffiti writer’s who ran and got away..they wasnt sure if i was one of them plus i have taking of my jacket and trashed it cause when you are spotted they describe what cloths you,re wearing..so when they came up the steps to the platform where i was waiting for the train in marcey ave train station in Brooklyn they asked me hey buddy where are you coming from..i also speak sign language from a job i had in downtown Brooklyn on schemerhorn street so i spoke to the police in sign language saying I’m sorry i don’t understand and i cant hear…may God forgive me but i also gotta use my intelligence for me not to face time and suffer as a human being i am not as a slave or a dog!!!so one of the cops aid..wait a minute..this kid is deaf..oh ok lets let em go and hey they let me go and finally my j train came through
PURE GRAFFITI.What cities and country’s have you painting at? What cities do you want to paint at in the future?
JESUS SAVES.so far i painted in puerto rico…Germany…France and Spain as for the cities i want to paint at..i want to paint all over the world hehehe but slowly but surely i will which is my gial..my next trip is Sao Paulo Brazil for me to paint at..i have friends who i met in newyork living out thee and they are inviting me through…one of them are graffiti writer a girl by the name of migna…if i have a place to stay at bedside a hotel is cool and even much better..yes i pay for me to stay even dough they dont chrage but i make sure i have enough money for paint wich will allow me to do about more than 10 pieces and massive of jesussaves freehand tags everywhere..yes I’m an Evangelist for God and i rep my jesus..to be an Evangelist is my calling as a believer of God that i am but as a man and as a young human being from Brooklyn that i am graffiti has also been a calling cause i at a time grew up in the streets..nothing caught my attention but only graffiti..i have seen drugs dirty money addicts hoes prostitutes crack heads abandon buildings rats poor neighbourhoods uncleaned streets full of garbage…fights alcoholics but out of all when it comes to the streets graffiti is what caught my eyes and my attention!!!!!!

PURE GRAFFITI.How do you find so much free time to dedicate to doing graffiti art? What is the best advice you can give that will be most useful to writers traveling to other country’s to paint for the first time?
JESUS SAVES.im a hard working man..with the amount of money i make through my job t-shirts and canvases i save and i buy spray paint to do walls ligaly in new york since they being so strict about it and also another half of the amount i save to travel over seas to paint somewhere else..as a hard working man i gotta make my own schedule for me to paint on my free time..my advice for those who are traveling for their first time to paint in other countries?yo don’t bring the paint with you to the airport cause it aint going through..save enough money for your trip and also for your paint…bring a digital camera with you for flicks and a camcorder for videos to take back with you home for memories that will last a life time..if you,re from the us and lets say you travel to Europe make sure you have contacts with Europeans and if not make sure you have guidance to where you gonna buy your paint at and do your own thing but a long distance friendship will become a big tremendous help no matter what part of the world he or she is in..fly out there with confidence and get ready to paint!!!
