L.A. Sheriff’s Department busts reputed tagger who was ‘guest artist’ at graffiti art store
A reputed tagger who was paid $1,000 to be a featured “guest artist” at a self-described graffiti art store was arrested at the downtown store this weekend after authorities found him carrying spray tips, which are used in tagging, officials said today.

Jason Williams, 32, who was on probation and goes by the name REVOK, was appearing Sunday as the guest of honor at the 33rd Graffiti Art Store, said Sgt. Augie Pando of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The store was exhibiting Montana spray paint, a brand used by taggers, Pando said.
During a later search of Williams’ home, deputies found several hundred paint cans, a police badge and a fire extinguisher, Pando said. They also found a stolen detour sign and digital photos of his graffiti work on his phone.
“He’s being treated as a celebrity artist when in fact he’s breaking the law,” said Steve Whitmore, a sheriff’s spokesman.
Williams was arrested on suspicion of illegally possessing vandalism tools, a counterfeit Los Angeles Police Department badge, and receiving stolen property, the sheriff’s department said.
Sheriff’s officials said Williams told them that he earns a living selling T-shirts and prints and said he was paid $1,000 to attend the art exhibit.
He is being held on $20,000 bail.

I was there that day. the fuken pigs had that place surrounded just waiting for people to leave the store with paint and shit. they seen the crowd gather there early in the morning before the store opened.They were stopping people for buying paint which is leggal. I'm 29 years old and they tried fucking with me too. i told them to eat a dick. they got my friend instead and took all our paint and fucked up a beautiful day for us.Art is not a crime!!!! I love graff, but we all know it's illegal. After all, that's why were in the game. Quit with all the boo hoo hoo and man up. Gansters don't go crying after they get busted. They own up to their crimes. Too many skater and rockers in graff who don't understand the nature of graffiti's illegal elements is what makes it appealing to real graff enthusiasts. Privelaged artists who only do legals would never understand. It's illegal, getting busted is a risk, deal with it.
Not every graffiti artist is a vandal. There are several respected graffiti crews with some of the best artists around, who have only done legal graffiti murals, such as CBS. CBS has done many murals on Melrose. They are naturally talented cats who are redifining the so-called nature of graffiti being illegal. They are also a culturally diverse group of individuals, unlike many of the other crews who only allow minorities from the ghetto to be in their crews. CBS has several middle to upper class members who are helping appeal to the mainstream. Just look at all the fans that go to 33rd, not all ghetto. Frap Drinker is closed minded.
this is bullshit! fair enough i understand that graff is illegal but there is nothing illegal about buying spray paint and caps. if there is no evidence of YOU writing on shit then the boys in blue cant do anything… I was lifted and thrown in a cell for a few days after "looking suspicious" and "carrying paints and markers" i even had my fucking blackbook in my bag. but they had to release me as there was no evidence i had done anything around town.
