1 BRUSH & 2 SPRAY CANS COMES TO GALLERY BAR NY, MARCH 24-APRIL 12, 2010

Spectacular “say-what-I-say” urban collaboration from artists Miguel Paredes, Mike Baca and Fernando Romero. In a phenomenal tribute to the shared force or artistic origins, Miami based painter, Miguel Paredes, one of the leading innovators and cross over artists working today, has joined forces with UR New York collective founders and artists Mike Baca, aka 2ESAE, and Fernando Romero, aka SKI, in 1 Brush & 2 Spray Cans which runs from March 24-April 12, 2010 at Gallery Bar NY. Individually, Paredes and the team of Baca and Romero have built international followings for themselves, but a chance meeting at Miami’s Art Basel 2009 became a mo

tivating and connective component for collaboration. Having grown up walking the same urban NY streets and literally breathing the same air during their formative years as artists they were astonished to find how much their ground for imagining and personal expression intertwined. Although they were raised in different decades and had traveled separate paths the commonality of purpose, personality and intellectual aspiration was as compelling as it was mysterious. The more they talked the more they recognized how their mutual passions for artistic rebirth and renewal, their collective memories, and their belief in modeling creative innovation for new generations, had given dawn to something new, gritty and forceful for them to explore together. Within days an astonishing trust, based in shared values and intentions, had developed and the three artists found themselves painting into each other’s urban landscapes. Through sheer strength in numbers, the party these three throw together in 1 Brush & 2 Spray Cans is revealing on so many levels that if you have ever wondered what fuels an artist’s obsession, what intimate secrets define their desires, or what frequency they use to turn up the volume on what is present and hip, this show is a chance to be schooled all over again. Paredes, Baca and Romero prove that an artist cannot only go home again but must return to their original source as often as they can. Revisiting and re-inventing those early instincts, even the infamous ones, allows them to stand up within the fire and signal out to the world that art touches, art influences, and the love of art is a force for reconstruction. 1 Brush and 2 Spray Cans is ultimately about artists who keep their edge because they are hungry, curious, and believe that art is a life’s mission and an artist is accountable for making new rules, drawing new signposts and being seen in the most unexpected places possible. Together and alone, these three artists reject the idea that art can only speak to an elite few. They shun the untouchable and unreachable narrative that still dominates contemporary art institutions and galleries. They believe in making art that is connected to the world they live in and they understand that the more of themselves they put into their art the more it gives back. Goodness given is goodness received and the resulting mix of these three talents is an exceptional kind of artistic homecoming that is nothing short of ageless.

1 Brush and 2 SprayCans runs from March 24-April 12 at the Gallery Bar NYC, 120 Orchard Street, between Delancey and Rivington streets. The Opening Night Reception will be held on Wednesday, March 24, from 7pm-11pm. All three artists will be in attendance. The Gallery Bar NYC, known for exhibiting works from the art world’s emerging and established talents, is a unique and creative addition to the booming art scene in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, merging a spacious art gallery by day and inviting lounge by night.
